Burghley House: Considered England's greatest Elizabethan house, Burghley in Lincolnshire was begun in the early 1500s by the queen's Lord High Treasurer and subsequently filled with pieces collected by his successors during their tours of Europe. Among the finest is a cabinet that was a gift from the Medici family and a specially lowered state bed for the famously short Queen Victoria.
